‘Shinpai Suna;’ Worry Not

September 27, 2018 by Karen Pischke

“I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship.” – Louisa May Alcott.
This phrase often comes to mind when I am experiencing challenging times in my life. Learning Reiki Ryohō, the Japanese Healing Art/Method (from Founder USUI Mikao Sensei in 1922) offered me another perspective as well as a  self-care practice to help ‘move through’ challenging times more easily. Knowing that on the other side of any storm …, there generally is calm.

Sedona Monsoon – During one visit to Sedona, I was amazed to see a monsoon storm approaching through the canyons of Sedona Arizona …. The wind growing so strong that it raffled my car. It felt as if my car would blow over.
Safe Ground – I kept driving to lower ground, then back again to the plateau where I would pause to watch, then drive back down again, staying safe. I was on the phone with my husband, who was back in Massachusetts. Telling him, I think if I wait, ‘the storm will stop, and there will be an incredible sunset.’

Nature Cooperates – The sun came out and I was witness to a beautiful sunset, and when I turned around … there was a double rainbow! Well worth the wait! 😎

Fear – is a strong emotion that is caused by an anticipation or awareness of danger. Healthy fear has a protective function, helping us to appropriately respond to a real danger or threat. Inappropriate, excessive worry and fear can be unhealthy, leading to anxiety, depression, panic attack and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, panic attack or PTSD, let your doctor know. Contact us for assistance with self-care tools that can help decrease anxiety, worry and fear, and allow for greater levels of peace, comfort and calm.

‘Shinpai Suna’ – Japanese for ‘worry not.’ The Reiki Principles come from USUI Mikao Sensei, Founder of Reiki Ryohō. The practice of Reiki Ryohō includes a focus on the Reiki (Gokai) Precepts or (Kyogi) Principles as tools for self-care, meditation and spiritual development.

Reiki Principle #2 – Shinpai Suna, Japanese for Worry Not, does not teach us to have no worry or fear, as these are human emotions. Appropriate fear helps to protect us from imminent harm and keeps us safe. Rather, this principle teaches us to more easily ‘let go’ of unnecessary worry and fear, which when inappropriate or excessive can be harmful, negatively impacting us mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically, behaviorally and socially.
Reiki Training includes learning, understanding and putting the Reiki Principles into daily practice. We are taught to reflect upon and recite the Reiki Principles twice daily, morning and afternoon. A great way to begin and end the day; making it easier to ‘let go’ of undue stress and negative emotions and focus on the positives.

Contact us with any questions about our Upcoming Reiki Training and Retreat – November 14 – 18 in Sedona Arizona.

Enjoy today,  Karen
