Breast Cancer Affects Men and Women. Beyonce’s father Mathew Knowles opens up about his breast cancer diagnosis on Good Morning America.

Do Not Delay Conventional Treatment. A study published in 2017 reported that “delay or refusal of conventional cancer treatment (CCT), when done in favor of alternative medicine (AM), may have serious survival implications for cancer patients.” Talk to your health team and make informed choices.

Open Communication With Your Health Care Team. The American Cancer Society urges patients who are thinking about using any complementary or non-mainstream therapies to first discuss it with their health care team. For safety and ‘best practice,’ let your doctor and healthcare team know if you are using any Alternative, Complementary or Integrative Therapies, herbal products, supplements or non-prescribed over-the-counter (OTC) products. Some may not be recommended or may even interfere with your treatment.

Integrative Therapies: Supportive Care for Cancer Patients. According to the American Cancer Society, “implementing integrative therapies in a clinical setting requires a coordinated team approach with well-trained providers. Training and credentialing for many integrative providers varies by jurisdictions. Best practices  suggest that providers be trained to the highest standard of their profession and educated in other relevant disciplines.”
