Enjoy a ‘Daily Attitude of Gratitude’ …

“An Attitude of Gratitude Brings Great Things.” ― Yogi Bhajan

I cannot recall exactly when I consciously began to notice my deep sense of gratitude, despite various hardships experienced early in life. Positive situations, experiences and encounters occurring in the most interesting and synchronous manner often leading to more profound meaningful and interesting experiences and encounters. Like a ‘ripple effect,’ each experience and encounter unfolding into more. More gratitude felt and expressed each time.

“A Cup of Tea. A Cup of Enlightenment.” — INAMOTO Hyakuten Sensei, Founder of Komyo ReikiDo™

Ten years into my practice of USUI Reiki Ryohō (a Japanese Healing Art/Method), I met and began to study with Hyakuten Sensei, a Buddhist monk from Kyoto Japan. His simple yet deep style of offering reiki resonated with me. A notable shift in my practice occurred, which was validated by my clients and students as they expressed experiencing more. For me, this shift included a journey to where Usui Reiki Ryohō began, Mount Kurama outside of Kyoto, Japan. A trip that continues to unfold.

Hyakuten Sensei uses the metaphor of enjoying a cup of tea as ‘satori,‘ Japanese for enlightenment, which can be found in the simple act of enjoying a cup of tea. In this moment, we experience a calm mind, body and spirit, and sense of inner peace.

The Importance of Taking Time to Enjoy a Cup of Tea –

During my recent 1st Degree/Shoden Reiki Training, I offered a cup of  tea to the students as this metaphor for ‘satori.’ I like to use yogi tea bags because each tea bag includes a ‘meditation’  or ‘message’ that may resonate for that individual.

With a selection of tea bags to choose from, the one I chose was ‘Breathe.’ Perhaps a  reminder to use the breath to be more present and enjoy the sense of ‘peace and calm’ that comes in that moment of mindfulness. My yogi tea bag ‘message’ that day was – “An attitude of gratitude leads to opportunity.”  In my experience, this has been true. I am grateful for the many opportunities I am presented with on a daily basis. I am grateful and happy to share the grace of those opportunities with others.

I Enjoy a ‘Daily Attitude of Gratitude.’ I am grateful for good health and happiness. I am grateful for my family and friends. I am grateful to live in a city that displays examples of ‘community and tolerance.’ I am grateful for all this, … and more.

Positive Affirmations for Promoting Gratitude –

  • I am grateful for this moment.
  • I am grateful for my good health.
  • I am grateful for loving family and friends,
  • I am grateful for kind friends, colleagues and neighbors.
  • I am grateful for positive experiences in my life.
  • I am thankful for the beautiful nature around me.
  • Each time I see the color of the sky, I relax and feel happy.
  • I am grateful for all that I have … and more.
  • I joyfully embrace each new day with gratitude.
  • My thoughts are focused on positivity and thankfulness.

Gasshō –  Putting hands together.  A ritual gesture of Eastern origin, with hands pressed together in front of the chest. It can be used for prayer or as a sign of greeting, gratitude, reverence, or apology. Similar to the Sanskrit word Namaste (näməˌstāin), associated with the Hindu religion and yoga practice. Gasshō describes a similar gesture, but is not spoken aloud as a salutation. Both are often gestured with a slight bow.

In Gasshō,

Karen
